REVIEW: Franziskaner Hefe-Weissbier

Herr Hefeweizen, The Ambassador of Wheat, would like to make his debut with the best of the best. Franziskaner Hefe-Weizen strictly follows the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516, and I challenge the troops to find a better brew. It is cloudy and boasts bountiful wheat flavor and a pleasant yeast taste with a hint of citrus, and from sip to swallow your tongue will thank you.
Make sure you correctly dispense this brew by pouring two-thirds of this into a proper Weizen receptical and then swirling the rest of the beer around before finishing it off in the glass, this will ensure proper dispersion of the yeast, then add a lemon to it and delight.
This is a must drink for any beer lover and a necessity for anyone claims to enjoy hefe-weizens.

I seem to remember a night were Herr H. challenged the Captain to a duel at the famed Hofbräuhaus in Munich. The Herr won, but shortly thereafter, he crashed in a blaze of glory…and vomit. His face was actually green like a lizard’s. The Captain and I had to drag him through the streets over our arms like a dead animal. Then as the Captain was helping the Herr…I remember being elsewhere, having a nice (or six) Franziskaner out in the street at the same time…ah good memory for me, bad memory for the Captain….

All this may…or may not be true. However, the part about Herr Hefeweizen out racing Captain Beer is gospel truth. Except that he may have won a moral victory by stopping, whereas I threw up beer that was still cold. I challenge anyone to go to the Famous Hofbräuhaus in Munich, and polish off a gallon of beer in 45 minutes and live to tell the tale.

I’m going to have to go with Georg Schneider wheat(s) over the Franziskaner, although I’ll allow that Franz. is a classic. Especially the Aventinus and the organic Edel Weiss. They’ve got a robustness that Franz. just can’t match in my book.

Alexander, you have laid down the gauntlet my friend. I revel in the challenge, The Herr will report back with his take on this duel of wheat.

Is the Herr dead? Does he no longer drink wheat beer?

I guess it’s kind of like Groundhog’s day- If the Herr sees a heff on Oktoberfest, then the Herr’s heff reivews will not be seen for another six weeks…or something like that.
