REVIEW: Kona Brewing Company – Fire Rock Pale Ale

As a seafaring soul I find myself perhaps more prone to antics on the open water. Well, I might not actually be out at sea, although once I got stranded on a sailboat in the middle of a pond, but that is a different story. However, much like my fellow nautical namesakes’ passion when at port, I enjoy tossing back the brews at any watering hole.
Most recently, my adventures took me to “Dukes” in Malibu. It was a Friday afternoon, and I was lucky enough to have reason to take an extended lunch-break by the beach. After trekking down the Pacific Coast Highway, I materialized at the bar and scoured the taps for something new. I chose the “Kona Brewing Company Fire Rock Pale Ale.” Kona is a brewery located on Hawaii’s “Big Island”, and that would explain why I haven’t discovered this beer until my relatively recent relocation to the west coast.
The “Fire Rock” greeted me with a smooth and creamy taste. It is similar in taste, weight, and texture to a “Fat Tire,” so if you are a fan of that, definitely give this a try. It left my mouth with a very light after-taste. I found this beer refreshing and it seems like the perfect happy-hour-style beer that feels substantial and rewarding. So, next time you find yourself in need a robust and rewarding pale ale, definitely give this brew a chance.
