Memories of yesterbeer

It’s rare that one remembers exactly where they were, what they were doing and what they experienced the first time they tried a new beer. Well, I guess what you were doing at the exact moment was trying that new beer, but you get my point. Ah but Captain Beer remembers one such occasion and one such beer. I will do a review on it quite soon, but as I can’t find it out here in CA, I feel I’ll be doing it a less-than-solid to review it while not sipping one. But I shall tell a tale… I was sitting on the roof of my Boston apartment in college with a friend of mine. We had dragged some easy chairs up there and in the late summer heat basked in the view out over the Charles river. Man, that apartment kicked ass. Anyway, I had just bought a 6 pack of Otter Creek’s Copper Ale. I took one sip, and told my friend we would not be going to class and would be drunk within the hour (after buying moreĀ ale, that is of course). Beautifully balanced maltiness with an assertive but not overbearing hoppiness, this (surprisingly!) copper colored and richly head-ed beer is a perfect ale. The first sip of it was… well really the only time I can recall a first sip right now was this’n… says a lot about the beer. Damn fine work, Otter Creek (all your other brews are great too!). What a sip…. What an afternoon…. Where did I put my keys…. Did I turn the oven off… oh Jesus, was her name Sharon or Karen? The one that’s walking over right HI! Hey there hi… mmmf-erin. No, just a little cold. Yeah. Right. I think he’s stupid too. What? Oh right, Otter Creek’s Copper Ale is great.
