REVIEW: Hofbrau Oktoberfest… right on

hoffoktober.JPG

Beer friends… how are ya? So tonight after driving back from Vegas, Mrs. Beer and I spent some quality time… brewing beer. Soon we’ll have a steam-style brew with a Captain twist. More on that in… say… 3 weeks. Tonight, it’s all about Oktoberfest. And, not surprisingly, Hofbrau’s Oktoberfest lager NAILS it. Oktoberfest officially began in 1810 in Munich (still the happiest place on Earth) and has been about the best thing to happen since.

The beer? It is a lager, but so much more complex than most lagers. The aroma of the brew is light hop and a whiff of apples. I detected hints of pumpkin and apple in the sip-n-swish and the finish is complex but not overly lingering. It’s like a group of drunken Germans showed up, had a rather complex party and then left not before their welcome was warn out (1945) but well before they necessarily needed to (1876). Socially proper, then, this beer is. At least that’s how Yoda would phrase it. The beer really does taste exactly like I would hope and expect a beerish emissary of the joy that is Oktoberfest would. So grab one or thirty before the season flees.

  1. “warn” is what gibbons do when someone walks nearby and they start a whoopin’ and a hollerin’ to let their bros know there’s a human coming. I think the word you wanted was “worn,” as in “their welcome was WORN out.” Prost.
