REVIEW: Victory Hopdevil - Slow Drinkin’ and Goes Well with Ribs

Victory HopDevil; an aerial view

Friends:

Sorry for the lack of posting; the General has been away traveling in embattled…New Jersey! I took Mrs. German out for the babyback ribs special on Wednesday at Overwood in Alexandria, VA. What better way to compliment this meal with a not-so-German-but-still-really-yummy brew, Victory Hopdevil. More after the jump.

HopDevil is a winner of some sizeable accolades: Champion American Beer: Great British Beer Festival 2002, and Domestic Beer of The Year: Malt Advocate Magazine 1999. Equally as impressive is how they can cram this many hops into the beer and still make it palatable with a meal, unlike the overpowering Green Lantern. The American flower hops are an equal match for the mighty 6.7 % ABV, and as autumn cools the summer air, we can use an extra percent or two in our beverages.

Ounce for ounce, this is an ale you can count on to carry you through such a manly meal as a rack of ribs, or watching your favorite team battle across the gridiron. Enjoy!

  2. This is indeed one of the hoppiest braus around (look i know BRAU doesn’t technically translate to BREW, but ich mochten ein friesches hantuch, ok? ok) and it can easily scare off those just approaching the hop plant for the first time. oh, how their timid, gloved hands tremble as a gently hopped bitters or ESB approaches their unrefined and wormy lips… but AH! If one can get to love The Hop… how sanguine and better like uh… beerfull they shall be. basically what i mean is if you don’t like hops, 1) stay away from this beer and B) bad form, old man… bad form.

yeh, and 6.7% is kinder play. well not actually, but like… meh–i’m just talking to hear myself talk. or type.
