REVIEW: Old Chub, Badass Scottish Ale
By Lieutenant Lager on Dec 5, 2007 in Brew Reviews
Don’t be fooled by the can- this hearty brew is like the quiet old guy brooding in the corner of the bar- he doesn’t look “that tough,” but he’d just as sooner slit the throats of six bud light frat boys than discuss…em, say politics…no, this is the alcoholic badass green beret from a hell hole in…Scotland?
-Point being, I was not prepared for Old Chub. And he kicked my ass. This is one hell of a beer.
You want toasted bitterness- look no further. The black exterior *which I would have seen (and thus readied myself) if I had poured into a glass, rather than drinking out of the can on the 3rd hole right before I teed off* should let you know right away that Old Chub’s got your back in any fight. The carbonation is very slight, so this almost tastes like cream of coffee and wheat- I hope you enjoy breakfast. To top it all off, Old Chub has a very sweet, hoppy aftertaste…That would be all she wrote, but then I realized…this has 8% alcohol! Which means, that even though Old Chub is going to beat the shit out of you- it will do it in a very smooth, enjoyable way…Oh I hear bagpipes…
at first i thought that was a car dash, but no… it’s not. i’m almost let down. that would have been balls-out. drinking boating and or golf carting–good times though
