Site News: Altbier ist hier!

Zee General reports that the Altbier brewed last month turned out great. After a 60-hour week at work, the General and his wife headed to Shenandoah Brewing Co. for some fun times…bottling. Bottling is actually a strenuous activity. Sadly, I think we each only had one beer each during the process. The machines we need to use in bottling can, well, explode, if misused. So, we had a ball bottling 125 bottles of tasty Altbier. Words of caution to those coming to east for Christmas: This ain’t DAB. This will put hair on your chest–it’s 7.2 % ABV. Read the FG at the bottom right of the recipe. Yeah. Tastes good; not quite what I expected, but this is a great-tasting beer which will keep you warm. Prost!

One other thing, if you all fancy brewing, I suggest we start a section on brewing, in which recipes are shared. Thoughts?

  1. I heartily agree.

The Belgian Wit I just brewed is my new canon of spiced beers. If I can re-create it regularly, I will be brewing full time (meaning as a job) just as fast as I can convince some asshat to bankroll me. Meaning sponsor blacked-out Tijuanan stumblings.

  2. Yeah, I think the Kolonel’s Tripel may still be a bit tangy this early in the game (I enjoy it already, but it’s kinda like thinking your own kid is great at soccer). It’s the addition of fresh yeast just prior to bottling that gives it the extra rawness and uber-carbonation, both of which will mellow in time into pure high-ABV goodness. The AV Brew Crew will be the judge this weekend.
