REVIEW: Eggenberg Natur trüb

Eggenberg Natur trüb

Happy Valentine’s Day, beer lovers! Today I am reporting on a new beer offered at Alexandria’s Bilbo Baggin’s–a beer lover’s restaurant if there ever were one–Eggenberg Natur trüb. While not German, this is an Austrian beer better known via its Pilsner, which is extremely crisp and dry–almost too much, if that makes any sense. Eggenberg then devised a better, more inclusive style–its Natur trüb (“unfiltered brew“) hasn’t undergone the filtration to produce the crisp, clear flavor of its big brother.

Consequently, this is both full-bodied andlight on the palate. Its 5% ABV makes it a lighter, gentler version of the Pils, which can cause excessive cotton mouth if you have two in a sitting. I would liken it to a mix between Schloss Eggenberg Pils and a White Ale of some kind. An excellent early spring beer, this is a welcome change to the doom-and-gloom of the hop crisis. Prost!

  1. Looks like a fine young wheat, General. Good head retention and when I think weissbier, that’s the exact color of brau I like to see. But I’m still trying to slurp down a few more winter beers before I start wheating it up (that’s wildly inaccurate, actually–I’ve wheated plural times in ’08).
