Bucolic is exactly the word I think of when I take in a Hoeg... the coriander and citrus just evokes the sounds of birds singing and bees buzzing, taking in the vibrance of a budding garden, musing on OW!! F#@king bee stung me! Stupid bee! You go squish now!

One of most (except in NE) widely available damn good braus around. Float a lemon slice in that sumbitch and stick a fork in me. What the hell, bra... I was clearly kidding about part of that.

But yeah, goes down smooth but tasty, can be a "pounded quencher" or a "slow sipped beer." Neither of those actually merit quotation marks.

But... did you describe the enjoyment of this Belgian Beauty as "bucolic"? I suppose I could take sips from a large pewter tankard whilst strolling past a wood and wicker wind mill, perhaps pausing to pluck a daffodil, unabashedly unzipping to urinate in a small stream then fleeing while flinging stones at a following farmer type. BLAUGH!!! He's got a pike! Who the hell has a pike anymore, even in Europe!?

Dude, I LOVE Hoegaarden. I discovered this diddy in 2003 while being the catcher for the bar league softball team. OK, yes, to be the catcher on a softball league means you are the WORST player on the team. But we were good--at drinking beer and eating wings, but not so much softball.

That summer in Delaware (the Mid-Atlantic in general) was especially hot. My wife (who also loves this beer) were without any central air conditioning, and zee vindow unitz deed nahzing. It was a putrid, sweaty, crazy-hot summer. This beer...this beer alone...I began to call "air conditioning". After a couple, no hot day seemed that hot anymore. After several, well, you forgot that it was so hot in the first place.

Anyways, Hoegaarden will always be a favorite for as long as I live. It's just a shame that its rather ephemeral showing on local taps in 2003-2005 was VERY quickly overcome with Blue Moon at any such bar having a contract with a Coors distributor. Sadly, most consumers cannot distinguish between "wheat" and "wit".

Great review, Kolonel. You hit the nail on the head with the flavor comparisons. Coriander and citrus being byproducts of witbeer yeast are a clear indication that God exists, and that he loves anyone who can appreciate the mingling of these flavors.
